Creative Outpost Makes Remote Grading Global With Bespoke CO-Stream Platform
Independent post-production studio Creative Outpost has unveiled CO-Stream, its bespoke remote grading platform, custom-built to recreate the experience of working together inside its boutique Fitzrovia grading suite from anywhere in the world. Rather than relying on a conventional remote viewing set-up, CO-Stream has been designed around Creative Outpost’s own creative workflow, combining ultra-low latency with a unique digital ‘reception’, live grading and private breakout spaces to create a remote experience unlike the standard video-call-and-stream model.
Developed alongside Creative Outpost’s in-person offering, CO-Stream enables seamless remote grading with clients across the UK, Europe, the US and beyond, giving international creative teams real-time access to its Colourists and grading suites wherever they are based.
With next to zero latency, the platform allows Directors, Cinematographers, Producers and Agency teams to watch a grade develop live, respond to changes as they happen and make frame-accurate creative decisions in real time.
Rather than reducing remote grading to a video call and streamed image, Creative Outpost has recreated the experience and natural flow of visiting a physical post house. Participants enter through a digital reception before moving into the live grading suite, while a separateprivate breakout room allows Agency teams, Producers and clients to hold conversations away from the main session before returning to the grade.
The result is an intuitive cloud version of the in-suite experience, preserving the conversations, quick reactions and shared decision-making that shapes strong creative work. The faithful digital recreation even extends to design details such as Creative Outpost’s distinctive reception area, complete with its specially commissioned custom scale Hick’s Hexagon design carpet, which visitors will recognise from corridors of the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining.
A single session could bring together a Director in Los Angeles, a Producer in New York, Agency creatives in Paris and London, an Agency Producer in London and a Colourist working from Portugal. Each participant can see the same image, communicate directly and move between shared and private spaces without interrupting the wider session.
Creative Outpost Partner and Chief Technology Officer Quentin “Q” Olszewski, said: “Remote grading has often solved the distance problem without fully solving the experience problem. We wanted to recreate the rhythm of being at Creative Outpost - arriving together, sitting in the grade, stepping into a private room for conversations and coming back ready to make decisions.
“The technology should support the creative conversation and then disappear into the background. Whether the Director is in LA or sitting beside the Colourist in Fitzrovia, the session should still feel immediate, personal and instinctive.”
Security has been built into CO-Stream from the outset, with controlled, white-listed access ensuring that only approved participants can enter each session. Its locally hosted infrastructure also allows Creative Outpost to offer a more flexible and cost-effective alternative to remote systems that rely on expensive dedicated hardware and bespoke decoder boxes.
Clients can therefore access a high-end remote grading experience without equipment being shipped between locations or extensive technical installation ahead of every session.
Creative Outpost Head of Colour Mark Horrobin said: “A grade is built through tiny reactions - a Director responding to a change in mood, a DP protecting a detail in the photography or a creative team seeing an idea come together as the image shifts.
“When the latency is low enough and everybody is looking at the same image at the same time, that instinctive collaboration returns. Geography stops dictating who can be in the room.
CO-Stream extends Creative Outpost’s full-service Colour and post-production offering, which brings together Colour, VFX, Sound, Edit, Design, Music and Finishing across five bespoke-designed floors in Fitzrovia.
It has not been created to replace the physical grading suite, but to give teams across the UK and internationally the same level of access, communication and creative involvement when travelling to London is not practical. Directors and DPs can work with CreativeOutpost’s Colourists from pre-production and visual development through to final grade, approval and delivery, regardless of where each member of the team is based.
By combining high-end Colour talent with technology designed around how creative teams genuinely work, CO-Stream turns remote grading from a technical workaround into a shared global studio.
